Didn’t See This Coming

I am the sole administrator of the community forum on a website my company owns. It’s my job to make sure the discussions stay on topic and to keep out the baddies.

Community forums are a spammers dream. Lots of people and most times very little security.

Mine is set up so that anybody can participate in the forum but only people who have a valid account and have contributed a certain number of quality posts can publish without approval.

All other posts go into the “moderate queue” where I screen out the garbage and pass on the OK stuff.

As you would expect I see a lot of spammers using a lot of different tactics. Pharmaceuticals, sex tapes, fake watches, tips on how to cheat e-Bay and Amazon, etc. For a while there I saw a lot of posts coming from China advertising brand named shoes at discount prices. It’s all pretty typical stuff for a day in the life of a forum admin.

I thought I’d seen it all. But just the other day I got this in the moderate queue:

Border Collie puppies for mark-down from dog breeders in your area. Advertise your Trimming Collie puppies for sale or matured Border Collie dogs in the course of sale.

Puppies? They’re hawking puppies on the Internet now?

Any other forum admins out there? What weird kind of stuff have you seen?
