Senior Research Technician – Genome Mapping Analyst

Responsibilities

  • Constructed and maintained the BAC and fosmid physical maps of model organisms to support the genome sequencing effort
  • Performed chromosomal map gap closure using techniques such as radioactive hybridization and various types of PCR (i.e. Panhandle PCR, Expand PCR, and Genome Walker)
  • Identified STS:Clone relationships through radioactive hybridization of overgos to high-density clone arrays
  • Actively contributed in group meetings, providing ideas toward streamlining and improving protocols or developing new methods to deal with gap closure of difficult regions
  • Verified sequence and non-sequence overlap information

Achievements

  • Initiated and organized the upgrade of data analysis software from version 5.2 to version 8.0
  • Software upgrade paved the way for higher throughput in the production pipeline and accelerated the map assembly process
  • Selected as team leader after two years on the job

Role as team leader was to oversee the planning, execution, and maintenance of projects and to serve as liaison between project team and management.
